The Harlem Renaissance was the rebirth of the black community after slavery, African American’s were now free citizens allowed to go travel, buy property and create their own lifestyles, in the early 19th century the great migration took place because many people were looking for jobs and new opportunities. New York was the mecca of prosperity and growth thanks to industrialization, they found Home in Harlem and created a movement that would forever impact the black community.
Many African American’s began to attend college and they emerged as social thinkers and culture shifters during this period. Many of them found a way of expression through writing, they wrote about themselves, foes, pride, background and even a desire of unity. These great thinkers gave African American culture a new all American face. They were pillars in their movement, and their works have impacts today on how we view and feel about African American culture; a mixing pot of emotions of a broken culture who founded sediments to the best of their ability for future generations.
